Barking and lunging on leash is one of the most common reasons owners ask for help. Calm on Walks starts with your responsibilities and safety, including bites, muzzles and when to get a professional, then uses the approach behaviour experts recommend: work at a distance where your dog stays calm, and pair the things they react to with good things. Every exercise uses rewards. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends reward-based training only, and found no evidence that force, pain or fear (prong or shock collars, leash jerks, shouting) work better in any situation.

A dog who's happy to wear a muzzle if needed
Calmer, more predictable walks
Part 1: Before you start
Your rights and responsibilities
Short reading lessons on what the law says about pets and service animals, and what's expected of you as an owner. Each ends with a quick quiz.
Pets, service animals and the law8 min read
What a trained pet is, and isn't, in the eyes of the law. This keeps you, your pet and our certificate on the right side of it.
Your responsibilities as a dog owner7 min read
The everyday rules that keep you, your dog and your neighbours safe: licences, vaccines, leashes, cleanup and bites.
Reactive dogs, bites and staying safe7 min read
What to do if things go wrong, why a muzzle can be your friend, and when a reactive dog needs professional help.
Part 2: Training
6 training lessons, about 10 minutes each
Each lesson has an animated diagram of the steps, step-by-step practice, troubleshooting tips, a clear goal for moving on, and a quiz.
Know your dog's triggers and distances10 min
Map out what sets your dog off, and from how far away.
A super-strong "look"8 min
Teach your dog to whip their head round when you say their name, indoors first.
The U-turn10 min
A cheerful "let's go" that turns you both away from trouble in one smooth move.
"Look at that": changing how triggers feel12 min
Pair seeing a trigger with treats, so triggers start to predict good things.
Happy muzzle training10 min
Teach your dog to push their nose into a basket muzzle because good things happen there.
Your walk plan10 min
Put it together into a plan for calmer, safer real-world walks.
