About this course

What it's for

Cats learn quickly when training is short and on their terms. Cat Basics starts with the rules every cat owner should know, from rabies laws to declawing bans and travel, then uses two- or three-minute sessions to make vet trips, nail trims and furniture battles far less stressful. Every exercise is reward-based and lets your cat choose to take part.

What you'll achieve

By the end of the course

  • Walks into the carrier on cue
  • Comes when called
  • Scratches the post instead of the sofa
  • Stays calm for nail trims

Part 1: Before you start

Your rights and responsibilities

Short reading lessons on what the law says about pets and service animals, and what's expected of you as an owner. Each ends with a quick quiz.

  1. Pets, service animals and the law8 min read

What a trained pet is, and isn't, in the eyes of the law. This keeps you, your pet and our certificate on the right side of it.

  2. Cat care, rules and welfare6 min read

The rules and welfare basics every cat owner should know before training starts.

Part 2: Training

6 training lessons, about 7 minutes each

Each lesson has an animated diagram of the steps, step-by-step practice, troubleshooting tips, a clear goal for moving on, and a quiz.

  1. A marker your cat understands6 min

A click or a short word tells your cat exactly what earned the treat.

  2. The carrier as a cosy spot8 min

Most cats hate carriers because they only appear before the vet. We change that.

  3. Into the carrier on cue8 min

Turn walking into the carrier into a trick your cat chooses to do.

  4. Coming when called6 min

Yes, cats can learn a recall, and it's handy in emergencies.

  5. The scratching post, not the sofa7 min

Scratching is normal. We give it a better place.

  6. Calm nail trims8 min

One nail a day, paired with treats, beats a wrestling match.
